Read this before you pay a deposit
A shared-guide seat is the cheap way down: Evolution 2 from €160, the Compagnie des Guides €175, High Mountain Guides £195. Private guides start at €425 (Compagnie des Guides) to €600 (Chamex) for one or two skiers.
Bring friends and private beats group. Mountain Tracks drops to £70 each for six and Mountain Spirit to €130 each, well under any group seat. Alone, though, a private day is £395–£600.
Budget about €100 for the lift on top of every quote except the Compagnie des Guides' Cosmiques hut night. Buy the Unlimited or the Compagnie's Midi + Montenvers pass, not a Midi round trip, which doesn't cover the train out.
Most offices lend a transceiver, shovel and probe, but check: the Bureau des Guides du Mont-Blanc lists only a beacon and harness, and Mountain Spirit charges €20 to rent the kit.
UK weeks (Jagged Globe £1,495–£1,795, Alpine Guides £1,750) buy lodging and coaching, but only one or two days with an IFMGA guide, and the Vallée Blanche is 'weather permitting'. If the descent is the point, book a local guide for that day.
Read the bad-weather terms. The Compagnie des Guides refunds in full when it cancels for conditions; Evolution 2 offers an alternative activity instead of a refund, and keeps your money if the guide turns you back for your level.
- The Vallée Blanche runs about 20 km from the Aiguille du Midi with roughly 2,700 m of descent, crossing glaciers including the Mer de Glace.
