Guided Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau climbs, compared
The Mönch is the Oberland's classic 4,000 m day climb: you ride the train to the Jungfraujoch and are on the summit by lunch. The Jungfrau takes a night at the Mönchsjoch hut, and the Eiger's Mittellegi ridge is a strict one-client-per-guide rock climb. Here is every guided program we could find from Grindelwald and Interlaken guide offices, UK companies and US outfitters.

What kind of trip do you want?
Copied from each company’s own pages on Oct 22, 2026. Every “See dates” button opens the page we used. Where a page says which season a price is for, we show it. Prices are in each company’s own currency; sorting by price uses rough exchange rates. Prices change; the operator’s page wins if it disagrees with this one.

Climb The Eiger yourself
Everything above is for hiring a guide. If you have the skills, this is what you need to do it on your own, free. Facts come from the summit’s own page on PeakSeeker, with sources.
- Normal route
- West Flank (Westflanke)
- Grade
- PD+/AD-
- How long
- 1-2 days
- Best season
- Late June through September
- Permits
- No permit needed, but hut reservations (e.g. Mittellegi Hut) are strongly recommended and a mountain guide is standard practice for non-locals.
- Start from
- Eismeer railway station (approach to Mittellegi Hut / Mittellegi Ridge), 10,364 ft (3,159 m)
- Climb from there
- 2,651 ft (808 m) of ascent
- Getting there
- Grindelwald is reached by train from Interlaken; from there the Wengernalpbahn/Jungfraubahn cog railway runs to Kleine Scheidegg and Eigergletscher, which serve as the approach points for both the West Flank/Mittellegi routes and North Face attempts. Nearest airport: Zurich Airport (ZRH); Bern Airport (BRN) is closer but has limited commercial service.
- Hazards
- Significant rockfall on loose terrain, especially in warm conditions or after storms
- Gear
- Standard alpine rock/glacier kit (harness, helmet, crampons, ice axe) for Mittellegi; full mixed-climbing rack, ice tools, and bivy gear for the North Face.

For the Mönch, book a local guide office. Prices run from CHF 495 each for two (BERIE) or CHF 545 each with Bergschaft at 2:1, up to CHF 890 for a strict 1:1 with Swiss Alpine Guides. No UK or US company sells the Mönch alone; they bundle it into a week.
Budget for the train on top of the guide. Nearly every Swiss operator excludes the Jungfraujoch ticket (from CHF 129.60 return, plus a mandatory CHF 10 seat reservation in summer), and the guest's hut night (CHF 78–80 half board) is usually extra too.
The Mittellegi is a 1:1 climb almost everywhere. Booked direct in Grindelwald or Interlaken it costs CHF 1,590–1,890 for 2 days. Chamex charges €3,150 for the same 2 days, and the US week-long versions cost $6,200 (Mountain Madness) to $8,500 (Alpine Ascents). The extra pays for warm-up days and a guide who already knows you.
If you want the Jungfrau, the 2-day Mönch + Jungfrau combination is the best value: CHF 1,050 each for two with OUTDOOR, or CHF 1,190 at 2:1 with Bergschaft. That is two 4,000 m summits for little more than the Jungfrau alone.
You start the climb from the Jungfraujoch straight off a train, so acclimatise before the summit day. Bergschaft says so outright, and the UK weeks (Jagged Globe £2,995, Adventure Peaks £3,150) build in hut nights for that reason.
- Jungfraujoch return train ticket: from CHF 129.60. From 1 May to 31 October 2026 a timed seat reservation costs CHF 10 extra and is mandatory. Jungfrau Travel Pass holders pay CHF 63 for the Jungfraujoch connecting ticket (CHF 89 with the seat reservation). jungfrau.ch ↗
- Mönchsjoch hut: half board CHF 78 for adults, CHF 50 for an IFMGA guide; bed only CHF 40; plus CHF 1.75 tourist tax per night. Staffed from late March to mid-October. Reserving ahead is required (CHF 20 extra if you turn up without a booking); no-show fee CHF 78 per person per night. moenchsjoch.ch ↗
- Mittellegi hut (Eiger ridge): CHF 80 per night with half board, no discount for alpine club members; unstaffed bivouac CHF 30. Reservation is mandatory and binding; free cancellation up to 48 h before arrival, CHF 80 no-show fee. mittellegi.ch ↗
- To reach the Mittellegi hut you ride the Jungfrau railway to Eismeer station inside the Eiger, walk down a tunnel, rappel onto the Kallifirn glacier and climb up to the hut (3,355 m). Descent is usually by the south ridge to the Mönch saddle. alpineascents.com ↗
- Mönch normal route (south-east ridge) from the Jungfraujoch: roughly 3–4 hours up and 2–3 hours down, on an exposed snow and rock ridge. Swiss Alpine Guides meet clients in the Jungfraujoch station hall at 9:30. swissalpineguides.ch ↗
