Tehran Province, Iran
Tochal Ski Resort sits high in the Alborz range on the flank of 3,964m Mount Tochal, reached from the Velenjak valley in north Tehran via one of the world's longest single-span telecabin gondolas — a 7,500m, multi-station lift built in 1978. The ski terrain itself is compact and high-altitude, clustered near the top stations around a small hotel at roughly 3,550m, with slopes running from about 3,846m down to 3,575m. It holds the distinction of being the closest ski area to a national capital anywhere in the world, letting Tehran residents reach snow within an hour of the city center. The resort was closed for a period and officially reopened in January 2024, and it operates a modest season of easy, high-altitude beginner terrain roughly from mid-November to mid-May.
