Eastern Cape, South Africa · Independent
Tiffindell was South Africa's only dedicated ski resort, sitting below the 3,001 m peak of Ben McDhui in the Southern Drakensberg (Ukhahlamba) range of the Eastern Cape, near Rhodes and Barkly East. Established in 1993, it relied entirely on snowmaking for a short June-August season and hosted the only FIS-homologated ski race on the African continent from 2014 onward. As of the most recent reporting available (2024), the resort has been closed since roughly 2020-2023 due to COVID-19 lockdowns and inconsistent snowfall, and is currently listed for sale with no confirmed reopening.
