Solang Valley Ski Resort
Solang Valley, 14km northwest of Manali on the road toward Rohtang Pass, is Himachal Pradesh's best-known snow-sports hub rather than a purpose-built Alpine-style ski resort. A short ropeway and a platter lift serve a compact stretch of slope — about 2.1km of marked terrain, almost entirely beginner and intermediate — while the same base area pivots to zorbing, paragliding, and other adventure activities once the snow melts in late spring. Numerous small local ski schools and equipment-rental operators cluster around the base, giving Solang an informal, bazaar-like feel that contrasts with larger Indian resorts like Gulmarg or Auli. It remains an accessible, low-commitment introduction to skiing for visitors passing through Manali rather than a serious piste-skiing or ski-touring destination.
