Zagreb, Croatia · Independent
Sljeme is Zagreb's local ski hill on Medvednica mountain, just 19 km from the Croatian capital — one of the most city-accessible ski areas in Europe. Its short, steep 'Crveni spust' (Red Descent) course has hosted the FIS Snow Queen Trophy World Cup slalom since 2005 (women) and 2008 (men), drawing crowds of up to 25,000 in one of the circuit's largest single-day spectator events. A new 10-person Doppelmayr gondola replaced the original 1963 cable car in 2021. The ski area itself is compact and geared to day-trippers rather than a multi-day holiday.
