Silverton Mountain

Silverton Mountain is a small, expert-only ski area in the San Juan Mountains near Silverton, Colorado, served by a single double chairlift bought secondhand from Mammoth Mountain. The terrain is entirely natural and ungroomed — no cut runs, no beginner or intermediate slopes — and skiing is guided-only for most of the season, with unguided access typically offered only in spring. Beyond the lift, the resort also offers helicopter-accessed terrain across a much larger permit area. It averages over 400 inches of snow a year and is among the highest and steepest lift-served ski areas in North America.
