Serra da Estrela, Portugal
Serra da Estrela Ski Resort, on the plateau near Manteigas and Seia in central Portugal, is the country's only ski area, sitting just below Torre — mainland Portugal's highest point. Operated by Turistrela, it runs a handful of lifts across nine short, mostly beginner-and-intermediate slopes that lean heavily on artificial snowmaking given the region's marginal and unreliable natural snowfall. The season is short and weather-dependent, typically running from December into March. Its modest scale makes it more of a novelty winter outing for Portuguese day-trippers than a destination resort by Alpine or Pyrenean standards.
