Canterbury, New Zealand · NZSki Superpass
Mt Hutt is Canterbury's marquee ski area, rising above the Canterbury Plains to a 2,086-metre summit with a 648-metre vertical drop — among the biggest lift-served verticals in New Zealand's commercial ski scene. Owned and operated by NZSki alongside Coronet Peak and The Remarkables, it's known for being the first Southern Hemisphere resort to open each season and for wide, wind-scoured bowls that hold snow well into spring. Five lifts, including the eight-person Nor'West Express, spread skiers across roughly 25 runs and 365 hectares of terrain. Its exposed alpine character has earned it repeated 'Best Ski Resort in New Zealand' honors from the World Ski Awards.
