Golan Heights, Israel
Mount Hermon Ski Resort is Israel's only ski area, perched on the southeastern slopes of Mount Hermon in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights near Majdal Shams. Opened in 1971 and expanded through the 1980s, it offers 14 trails served by 11 lifts across roughly 45 km of piste, spanning from red-graded intermediate runs down to a handful of beginner and black-graded terrain. Because it sits at the southern edge of the snow-reliable Levant, the season is short and unpredictable — typically January to March — and the resort has occasionally opened with little to no natural snow. Beyond skiing, Hermon operates as a year-round mountain attraction with an alpine coaster, cable car, and sledding areas for visitors outside ski season. Its location is disputed territory under international law (Golan Heights, held by Israel since 1967 and annexed in 1981, a move not internationally recognized) — a fact relevant to how the site is characterized.
