Kiroro Resort

Kiroro, in Akaigawa Village roughly an hour from Sapporo, is one of Hokkaido's premier powder destinations, prized for the same abundant, dry snowfall that made neighboring Niseko famous — without the same crowds. The resort spans two peaks, Asari and Nagamine, rising from around 570m to 1,180m (a 610m vertical drop) across roughly 22 courses and 30km of slopes served by 9 lifts, including two gondolas. Originally developed by Yamaha in the 1980s, Kiroro was acquired in December 2021 by the Chinese conglomerate Fosun Group — also the majority owner of Club Med — which now operates the Club Med Kiroro Grand and Club Med Kiroro Peak properties on-site alongside the ski operation. Extensive tree-skiing terrain and a consistently deep natural snowpack have made it increasingly popular with freeriders looking for an alternative to Niseko's busier slopes.
