Hunter Mountain

Hunter Mountain is the Catskills' best-known ski area, built on a reputation for aggressive, industry-leading snowmaking dating to the 1980s that lets it open early and hold conditions through variable Northeast winters. A 2018 expansion added roughly 1,000 vertical feet of new terrain, one of the largest East Coast resort expansions in over 15 years. Acquired by Vail Resorts via the 2019 Peak Resorts purchase, it now runs on the Epic Pass and draws heavy weekend traffic from New York City, about 2.5 hours away.
