Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, South Korea
Built for South Korea's 2018 Winter Olympic bid and completed in 2011, Alpensia is a compact, beginner-friendly ski area in Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang County — the township that hosted the Games' opening and closing ceremonies. Its modest terrain, three chairlifts serving seven mostly easy-to-intermediate runs, sits alongside the Olympic ski jumping, biathlon, and sliding venues, with night skiing until 10pm. After years of financial losses under provincial ownership, the resort was privatized in 2022.
