Alpe d'Huez

Alpe d'Huez is a purpose-built ski resort in the Grandes Rousses massif of Isère, in the French Alps, perched on a sun-facing balcony above Bourg-d'Oisans. Lifts climb from the resort to Pic Blanc at 3,330 m, and the ski area is linked with the neighboring villages of Vaujany, Oz-en-Oisans, Villard-Reculas and Auris-en-Oisans to form one of France's largest connected ski domains. It is home to the Sarenne, marketed as the world's longest black run at roughly 16 km, and hosted bobsleigh events at the 1968 Winter Olympics. The famous cycling climb to the resort, a recurring Tour de France stage finish, gains its 21 hairpin bends' worth of fame at a village elevation of around 1,860 m.
