Poás is an active stratovolcano in Costa Rica's Central Valley highlands, famous for its easily accessible summit crater and Laguna Caliente, one of the world's most acidic lakes. Unlike most volcanoes on this list it requires no climbing at all in normal times — a short paved path leads from the park visitor center directly to a crater-rim viewpoint — but its genuine, frequent eruptive activity means the park is periodically and sometimes indefinitely closed to visitors. There is no meaningful "first ascent" to document since the summit has long been reached by road and trail rather than by mountaineering.

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
