Vihren is Bulgaria's second-highest peak and the highest point of the Pirin Mountains, a dramatic marble massif at the heart of Pirin National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its steep, pyramid-shaped summit is usually reached from the Vihren mountain hut via the Kabata saddle, a strenuous hike with a short rocky scramble near the top; a harder alternative crosses the exposed Koncheto knife-edge ridge. Below its north face lies Snezhnika, described as continental Europe's southernmost surviving glacial ice mass.
