Taum Sauk Mountain

Taum Sauk Mountain is the highest natural point in Missouri, an ancient Precambrian igneous ridge in the St. Francois Mountains that, unlike the sedimentary Ozark terrain around it, is true volcanic-orogeny mountain rock rather than eroded plateau. It sits within Taum Sauk Mountain State Park, which also protects Mina Sauk Falls, Missouri's highest waterfall. A short paved path leads from the parking area to the highpoint marker, while a rugged 3-mile loop trail extends to the falls for those wanting a longer hike.

How we verified this

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
