Pico Cão Grande

Pico Cão Grande is a striking needle-like volcanic plug rising 663 m in the jungle interior of São Tomé Island, formed roughly 3.5 million years ago as magma solidified in an old volcanic vent; it is one of the most technically demanding summits in Africa, not a hikeable peak.

How we verified this

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.

Photography via Wikimedia Commons under its respective licences — the same sourcing standard as the resort photos elsewhere on the site.
