Nevado Pissis (also called Monte Pissis) is an extinct stratovolcano straddling Argentina's La Rioja and Catamarca provinces in the remote Puna de Atacama, about 25 km east of the Chilean border. It is one of the highest peaks in the Western Hemisphere and, by some measurements, the second-highest volcano on Earth. Unusually for a mountain of its extreme elevation, it holds no true permanent glacier, though it carries seasonal snow and an unusual crevassed ice field on its slopes.
