Mount Marcy

Mount Marcy is the highest peak in New York State and the crown jewel of the Adirondacks' famed '46 High Peaks.' Known to the Mohawk as Tahawus, roughly 'cloud-splitter,' its summit offers views of dozens of surrounding peaks on a clear day. It is also the source of the Hudson River's most remote headwaters, feeding the tiny alpine tarn Lake Tear of the Clouds just below the summit.

How we verified this

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
