Mount Mansfield is Vermont's highest peak and the high point of the Green Mountains, a long ridge whose profile is famously said to resemble a reclining human face, with named features like the Forehead, Nose, Chin, and Adam's Apple. It is a non-technical but genuinely alpine hike, crossing one of the largest surviving patches of arctic-alpine tundra in the eastern U.S. above treeline. The mountain carries significance beyond its height: the Long Trail traverses its summit ridge, Stowe Mountain Resort occupies its eastern flank, and roughly 200 acres near the top are protected as a National Natural Landmark.
