Mount Garibaldi is a dormant, glaciated stratovolcano that dominates the skyline between Squamish and Whistler and gives its name to the surrounding Garibaldi Provincial Park. It is a genuine glacier mountaineering objective rather than a hike, requiring crevasse-rescue skills, crampons, and typically a multi-day approach across the Garibaldi Névé. The peak's steep, unstable slopes (a legacy of having formed partly on top of glacial ice) mean the standard route is usually climbed in late winter or early spring, when the rock is frozen and more stable.
