Mount Etna

Mount Etna is an active stratovolcano on Sicily's east coast and, at roughly 3,403 m, the tallest volcano in Europe and the highest peak in Italy south of the Alps. Almost continuously active, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most-visited volcanoes in the world, with guided treks to its summit craters running for much of the year.

How we verified this

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.

Photography via Wikimedia Commons under its respective licences — the same sourcing standard as the resort photos elsewhere on the site.
