Mount Ararat is a dormant, snow-capped stratovolcano in eastern Turkey, traditionally identified as the resting place of Noah's Ark in the Book of Genesis — a status that makes it one of the most culturally resonant peaks on Earth and an enduring national symbol for Armenians, for whom it remains visible from Yerevan but unreachable across a closed border. Its non-technical southern route to a 5,137 m summit makes it one of the world's most popular high-altitude peaks for trekkers without technical mountaineering experience.
