The Mönch is a 4,110 m peak in the Bernese Alps forming the central summit of the famous Eiger-Mönch-Jungfrau trio overlooking Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen. Its name means "monk" in German, traditionally said to symbolize the mountain protecting the Jungfrau (maiden) from the neighboring Eiger (ogre).
