Browse all summitsMagazine Mountain (also called Mount Magazine) is the highest point in Arkansas, its summit -- Signal Hill -- reaching 2,753 feet (839 m) within Mount Magazine State Park in the Ozark National Forest. A flat-topped mesa rimmed by sandstone bluffs, it is one of Arkansas's most biodiverse mountains, hosting 94 of the state's 134 butterfly species along with black bears and the rare Diana fritillary. French hunters are said to have named it 'Magazine' (French for barn) for its distinctive flat-topped profile.
