Ismoil Somoni Peak is the highest mountain in Tajikistan and the highest point of the former Soviet Union, rising to 7,495 m in the Pamir Mountains' Academy of Sciences Range. Formerly known as Stalin Peak and then Communism Peak, it was renamed in 1998 to honor the 9th–10th-century Samanid ruler Ismoil Somoni.
