Grand Combin

Grand Combin is a heavily glaciated massif in the Valais Pennine Alps, its highest point — Combin de Grafeneire — rising above the Val de Bagnes near Verbier. It's a serious, high-altitude glacier climb rather than a hike: reaching the summit means crossing crevassed glaciers below faces prone to serac collapse, normally done as a roped, crampon-and-ice-axe ascent over two days from a hut such as Cabane de Panossière or Cabane de Valsorey. It's among the more committing of the Alps' 4,000-meter summits, with routes graded from PD up to D- depending on the line taken.

How we verified this

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
