Gaiziņkalns

Gaiziņkalns is Latvia's highest point, a gently rounded hill in the rolling Vidzeme Upland east of Madona. It's a modest, easily walked summit rather than a true mountain — reached via a short forest trail — and doubles as a small ski area in winter with several slopes and guesthouses nearby. A long-running rivalry with Estonia's slightly taller Suur Munamägi once led to construction of an observation tower meant to edge out the neighboring peak, though the unfinished structure was demolished in 2012 after becoming unsafe.

How we verified this

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
