El Cerro del Aripo

El Cerro del Aripo is the highest point in Trinidad and Tobago, a flat-topped, cloud-wrapped summit rising from the eastern Northern Range above the village of Heights of Aripo. Its forest transitions from lowland rainforest to elfin woodland and cloud forest near the top, sheltering the endemic golden tree frog and the little-known Trinidad luminous lizard, and its slopes feed the headwaters of tributaries of the Caroni River. The summit itself offers no view — it sits shrouded in near-constant cloud and fog — making the climb more a wildlife and forest experience than a viewpoint hike. It lies close to the celebrated Asa Wright Nature Centre and the limestone Aripo Caves (home to an oilbird colony), both popular stops for the region's birdwatchers.

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
