Eagle Mountain is the highest point in Minnesota, rising to 2,301 feet (701 m) in the Misquah Hills within the Superior National Forest, inside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) in northern Cook County. Unlike most state highpoints, reaching its summit requires a genuine wilderness hike -- roughly 6.6 miles round trip past Whale Lake -- and a self-issued wilderness permit due to its BWCAW location. A shorter, unrelated peak of the same name exists at the nearby Lutsen Mountains ski resort, a common source of confusion.

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
