The Dom is the highest peak located entirely within Switzerland and the seventh-highest summit in the Alps overall, forming the high point of the Mischabel massif between the Mattertal (Randa) and Saastal (Saas-Fee) valleys. It is a serious glaciated 4,000m mountaineering objective, not a hike — the normal route crosses the Festigletscher and Hohberggletscher and demands crampons, rope, and real glacier-travel competence. The mountain also holds a curious ecological distinction: a saxifrage growing roughly 40 m below its summit is Europe's highest documented flowering plant.

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
