Clingmans Dome

Clingmans Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and in the state of Tennessee, and the highest point on the entire Appalachian Trail. A 45-foot concrete observation tower at the summit, built in 1959, offers 360-degree views that can extend over 100 miles on a clear day. In September 2024 the peak's official federal name was restored to Kuwohi ("mulberry place" in Cherokee), reflecting its long-held sacred significance to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

How we verified this

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
