Cayambe

Cayambe is a glaciated compound volcano in Ecuador's Pichincha Province, about 70 km northeast of Quito, and the country's third-highest peak. Its southern slope, at roughly 4,690 m, is the highest point on Earth crossed by the Equator and the only point on the Equator with permanent snow cover — it is also the point on Earth's surface farthest from the planet's rotational axis.

How we verified this

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
