Bukit Pagon

Bukit Pagon is a forested peak straddling the Brunei-Malaysia (Sarawak) border in Brunei's mountainous Temburong District, and is officially recognized as Brunei's highest point. The mountain saw military action during the Indonesia-Malaysia Confrontation of the 1960s, when British and Commonwealth forces conducted counter-insurgency operations in the surrounding jungle. Its slopes host rare Bornean flora and fauna, including the pitcher plant Nepenthes lowii and several locally distinctive moth species. Because the Brunei side of the mountain is enclosed by protected forest with no public trail access, climbers almost universally approach via logging roads on the Malaysian side, from Limbang or Lawas in Sarawak. A short distance from the border summit lies a slightly higher subsidiary summit that sits entirely within Malaysia and is not part of Brunei's national high point, a detail that creates some inconsistency across elevation listings.

How we verified this

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
