Breithorn

Straddling the Swiss-Italian border in the Pennine Alps between the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa, the Breithorn is widely regarded as the easiest 4,000-metre peak in the Alps to climb. Its broad, glaciated summit plateau is reachable in a few hours from the Klein Matterhorn cable car station above Zermatt, making it a favourite first 4,000er for aspiring alpinists — even though its glacier crossing still demands real mountaineering skill and equipment.

How we verified this

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
