Borah Peak

Borah Peak is Idaho's highest summit, a rugged limestone giant rising abruptly from the Lost River Valley in the Lost River Range. Its standard Southwest Ridge route via the notorious Chicken-Out Ridge mixes Class 2/3 hiking with two brief but exposed Class 3-4 crux moves along a narrow, often snow-covered arête, making it one of the more demanding state highpoints in the Lower 48. The peak's dramatic relief from trailhead to summit and status as a highly prominent Rocky Mountain peak give it a genuinely alpine character despite its non-technical classification. A small permanent ice mass on its north side was recognized as Idaho's only glacier in February 2021.

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
