Mawson Peak is the summit of the Big Ben volcanic massif, an active stratovolcano covering most of uninhabited, glacier-clad Heard Island in the far southern Indian Ocean. It is one of the most remote and rarely climbed peaks on Earth — roughly 4,100 km southwest of Perth and 1,700 km north of Antarctica, reachable only by chartered expedition vessel.
