Ben Macdui is Scotland's and Britain's second-highest mountain, after Ben Nevis, and the highest summit of the Cairngorms. It sits on a broad, high plateau above the Lairig Ghru pass and Loch Etchachan, reached most directly by a long moorland path from the Coire Cas car park at the Cairngorm Ski Centre. It's a serious hillwalk despite the lack of technical climbing — a vast, exposed summit plateau prone to sudden whiteouts — and is wrapped in the folklore of the 'Big Grey Man,' a presence reported by generations of climbers.
