Ausangate

Ausangate is the highest peak of the Vilcanota range and one of the most sacred mountains (Apus) in Andean/Incan tradition, venerated by communities in the Cusco Region as a guardian spirit that watches over local llama, alpaca, and vicuña herders. It rises about 100 km southeast of Cusco and is the centerpiece of the popular multi-day Ausangate trek, which passes near the Vinicunca 'Rainbow Mountain.'

How we verified this

Elevation, prominence, coordinates and first-ascent facts are checked against published references and official sources. Where a fact isn't clearly documented, we show it as unknown rather than estimate.
