Ama Dablam is a dramatic, steep-sided peak in Nepal's Khumbu region, often called the 'Matterhorn of the Himalayas' for its distinctive ridges and hanging glacier ('dablam'). Unlike Nepal's trekking peaks, it is a genuine technical alpine objective, with the Southwest Ridge normal route involving sustained rock and ice climbing above 5,700 m. It sits close to the main Everest trekking trail and is one of the most popular permitted expedition peaks in the Himalaya.
